Biostar's new mouse is made for claw grippers

Racing themed rodent is Biostar's third mouse.

If we asked 10 people to rattle off a list of gaming peripheral companies, there's a good chance that Biostar wouldn't get a single mention. That's because Biostar is best known as a maker of budget motherboards, a category it's been competing in for many years, though it now has a small and growing line of gear for gamers. The newest of those is the GM5 mouse.

The GM5 is Biostar's third rodent. It's also what the company considers its flagship mouse and is priced accordingly at $40. Biostar's other two mice, the AM3 and AM2, are priced at $16 and $10, respectively.

Even at $40, it's a pittance compared to flagships from competitors like Razer and Logitech, though it's also comparatively thin on features. It lacks amenities such as removable weights and modular pieces.

What it does bring to the table is a 7,200 dpi PixArt PMW 3330 optical sensor that can be adjusted down to 50 dpi. Users can program four preset dpi settings—by default they're set at 800, 1,600, 2,400, and 7,200.

Biostar says the GM5 is designed for gamers who favor the claw grip. It's also an ambidextrous mouse with 8 programmable buttons featuring Omron switches and five modes.

Like the AM3, the GM5 falls under Biostar's Racing series of products. This one is themed with a carbon fiber finish and racing logo, the latter of which is one of several parts featuring RGB illumination. The other places that light up include both sides and the scroll wheel.

Biostar did not say when the GM5 will be available to purchase.

Cooler Master unveils MasterWatt Maker 1200W PSU made in Japan

Cooler Master is giddy as all get-out about its newest power supply, the MasterWatt Maker 1200 MIJ, a 1,200W unit that is made in Japan with a combination of Japanese and German components. The implication there is that it's a high-quality PSU, and it has a high price tag to match. We'll save your monitor the coffee bath and the let you finish your drink before getting to the MSRP.

As to the power supply, Cooler Master says it started as a research project into the future of PSU design for the next decade, and how it could improve on the best analog PSUs to date. That led the company to being very specific in sourcing parts.

"When it comes to most electronics these days, they’re either made in China or Taiwan, with a few exceptions that are usually manufactured either in Korea or Japan. 80 percent of the components used in this power supply are made in Japan. More than 20 pieces of them have even been custom designed by Murata for this PSU, because the common parts available on the supply chain market simply weren’t cutting it," Cooler Master says.

Murata is a popular electronics and components manufacturer in Japan that supplies parts to clients in various fields, including robotics, automotive, and space exploration, to name just a few.

"The MasterWatt Maker 1200 MIJ was built using the highest quality components available, to the standards of some of the most stringent electronics engineers in Japan," Cooler Master added. "Some parts of the PSU use a design where two components were implemented instead of one, to help lower the generated heat and to increase the components’ lifespan. Many of these components are rated to work at temperatures of up to 150C."

The culmination of all this design goodness is a 1,200W PSU that is fanless at up to 600W (50 percent load). It also features fully modular cabling, 80 Plus Titanium certification, and up to 100A over a single +12V rail.

As for connectors, it includes:

  • Motherboard 20+4 pin (x1)

  • CPU12V 4+4 pin (x2)

  • PCIe 6+2 pin (x12)

  • SATA (x16)

  • Peripheral 4-pin (x13)

Finished that coffee yet? Good—Cooler Master's asking price here is $1,000 (£900).

Glow - Lightsaber meets Earphone

Listening to good music is one thing but seeing it in some form is a whole new experience which thanks to the new earphones in the block is absolutely possible. Say hello to the Glow Earphones!

Originally designed by Quantum Bakery, Rich Park, Soohun Jung & BEBOP Designers these new piece of tech first made an appearance back in 2015 on Kickstarter but only went up for sale to the general consumers in 2017.

Wooing Star War fanatic and audiophiles alike the Glow earphones are a perfect blend of laser lit wires and powerful audio drivers all blended into a single unit. Glow makes use of an innovative material called Fibrance. Developed by Corning (the people behind GorillaGlass), Fibrance is a fiber optic cable that instead of conducting light through it, dissipates it evenly across the length of the cable, allowing it to illuminate brightly and evenly by scattering a laser light. The Fibrance material doesn’t give off heat either, making it the perfect choice for the Glow.

The earphones have their own battery for the lights which one can charge through a micro USB port while the audio is fed to them through a 3.5mm jack. Once discharged the earphones work as a normal pair of earphones without lights which interestingly means that there are no boundaries to limit its audio performance.

The lighting pattern can be controlled by an app available for free for the iOS and Android platforms, one can set them to still, off, pulsate or even glow in sync with the music. Brightness and contrast are also controllable.

Available right now in Red and Blue colors with Green coming in this Summer they are available for purchase at $169 on the official website.

G.SKILL Memory Breaks DDR4 5.5GHz World Record Barrier

Taipei, Taiwan (7 June 2017) – G.SKILL International Enterprise Co., Ltd., the world’s leading manufacturer of extreme performance memory and gaming peripherals, is excited to announce the DDR4 frequency world record at DDR4-5500MHz. This astonishing achievement was accomplished by the Taiwanese professional overclocker, Toppc, using G.SKILL DDR4 built with Samsung 8Gb ICs, on the latest MSI X299 GAMING PRO CARBON AC motherboard and Intel® Core™ X-series processor.

A New Overclocking Milestone
Just last year, one week before Computex 2016, the renowned Taiwanese overclocker, Toppc, broke the DDR4 5GHz barrier using G.SKILL memory and MSI Z170I GAMING PRO AC motherboard. A year after, he raise the bar once again and became the first ever to push DDR4 speed to 5.5GHz under liquid nitrogen cooling. This tenacity demonstrates his overclocker’s spirit of pursuing faster speed and greater performance of the latest computer hardware.  This record has been validated by HWBOT. For more information, please refer to the following link and image: http://hwbot.org/submission/3569827_toppc_memory_frequency_ddr4_sdram_2750_mhz

“DDR4 5.5GHz has been our next target after we achieved DDR4 5GHz last year. We are extremely excited to finally make it happen together with Samsung components, MSI X299 motherboard, and Intel Core X-series processor,” says Tequila Huang, Corporate Vice President, G.SKILL International. “We are seeing amazing overclocking potential for these newly released hardware and we believe that more overclocking benchmark records will be achieved very soon by professional overclockers worldwide."
